Skins[ | ]

Northernlion Skin[ | ]

On August 2nd, 2015, Brawlhalla held a "Skin in the Game" Invitational. This was a tournament where 4 streamers competed against each other; RockeLeeSmile, AlpacaPatrol, Northernlion, and BaerTaffy. Whoever won the tournament would get a skin in the game, with whatever design they wanted.

Northernlion would end up winning the tournament, giving him the chance to get a skin in the game. Three days after the invitational, Northernlion was asked in a stream if the skin was in development yet, to which he responded that he hasn't figured out what he wants his skin to be, and expressed that he was "freaked out" by the prospect of having a skin in the game.

No skin has yet come out of the contest, and is unlikely to as it was so long ago. It is likely Northernlion never gave an idea for a skin to the Brawlhalla team, causing plans for a new skin to fall through.

Unused Skin Designs[ | ]

In early versions of Brawlhalla, assets for skins could be found prior to their official release, and in some cases with non-finalized designs. The following are skins that had early designs that were never used in-game, but still present in the game's files.

Unused Design Final Design Description
Unused Skin Atomic Orion Atomic Orion Atomic Orion
Prior to Alpha v0.5.0, Atomic Orion's head was much rounder than the final design. This round design is still used in-game today when Atomic Orion's head is turned away from the camera.
Unused Skin Castaway Thatch Castaway Thatch Castaway Thatch
The early design of Castaway Thatch was significantly different, with no crab on his head or eyepatch, and two hooks for hands (which would have made it the only skin in the game with no hands). Additionally, earlier in-development assets showed Castaway Thatch with striped turquoise pants instead of white and blue. The design was changed by Alpha v0.5.0.
Unused Skin Cyber Bodvar 1
Unused Skin Cyber Bodvar 2
Cyber Bödvar Cyber Bödvar
Two early designs for the helmet of Cyber Bödvar. The first design was updated in Alpha v0.5.0, and the second design was updated to the final design by Beta v1.12.0.
Unused Skin King Roland King Roland King Roland
A minorly different King Roland, the only differences being the perspective of his helmet and the color on top of his shoulder armor. This was changed by Beta v1.0.
Unused Skin Supreme Ruler Vraxx Supreme Ruler Vraxx Supreme Ruler Vraxx
An early version of Supreme Ruler Vraxx with many differences. This was first added to the game files around Alpha v0.4.0. The final design was added interally as early as Alpha v0.5.0, with both versions existing at the same time for a while.
Unused Skin Vraxx the King SkinIcon LordVraxx Rocker Vraxx the King
This paler version of Vraxx the King existed as early as Alpha v0.4.0 as an icon, but the actual assets for the skin were the same as the final design, meaning this version of the skin was likely changed early. The icon was fixed by Beta v1.0.

Custom Legends[ | ]

Before Legends existed, the original plan for Brawlhalla was to allow players to create their own custom characters. Players would be able to change aspects of their character such as their gender, hair style and costume. While this feature never made it into the actual game, assets exist in the game files that show what could have resulted from the system.

Costumes[ | ]

Unused Costume UI

The unused Costumes menu.

Costumes are the predecessor to skins, allowing the player to change the style of clothes their character is wearing. Each costume consists of a matching set of four parts: helmet, chest, gloves, and boots. Because of this, the player would theoretically be able to either wear a matching costume, or mix different pieces from different costumes.

The following is a list of all costumes, listed by their internal names. Note that these are approximate recreations, and may be slightly different than their intended design.

Notes:

  • Some costumes were reused for Legends:
    • Valkyrie was reused for Orion.
    • Parts of Hunter were reused for Gnash.
    • Parts of Mech and Space were reused for the unused Legend Gadget.
  • Monk and Samurai were only given the most fitting hair styles; theoretically, it would have been possible to customize their hair.
  • Only Hunter and Ninja do not have a counterpart of the other gender. The male Hunter parts were scrapped for Gnash, but the reason behind there being only one gender for Ninja is unknown.
