As the story goes...[]

"And to think my Order's own quartermaster, Octavius Mordex, was a stinking werewolf all along." Diana telling Ada the story of her betrayal

It is not easy to become a lycanthrope on purpose. A werewolf bite rarely works, because the bite is almost always followed by being eaten by a werewolf. So when Octavius Mordex, Master Hunter of the Order of the Exalted Lion, was ordered to take his team into the frozen north to hunt down a plague of werewolves and frost giants, he knew he had to plan his treachery carefully.

Mordex had wormed his way into the noble Order not to do good, but to get closer to the monsters whose powers he so desired. He overthrew the Cult of The Ice Witch but reported their Tome of Rituals “lost in the fire.” He destroyed the Wraith of Darkmoor but secretly took the fiend's great scythe Cull for himself. And now he saw his chance to gain the power of a whole new sort.

A year later, Mordex returned from the north with a tale of horror and victory. Trapped in an unholy ice storm, his team surrounded by werewolves and giants, he told a tale of starvation, desperation, and heroic battle. He was the only survivor. No one questioned that Mordex himself seemed quite well fed.

Acclaim and promotion followed. Soon, only the vigilance of another hunter, Diana, stood between him and his ultimate target: the Geminius Virens — a cursed artifact hidden in the deepest vaults of the Order. Calling on dark magic, he ambushed Diana and escaped with his prize.

In Valhalla, Mordex is horrified and delighted to find the monster is his true form. Valhalla forms strange alliances, and Mordex finds himself in accord with the likes of Thatch and Azoth, much to the fury of his nemesis.

"Yeah, well, she should have suspected something when she found me sleeping under the porch." – Mordex

Input Description Damage Stun Force
Neutral Mordex hops up and back, riding a gust of wind. When the time is right – be it right after his jump or when he almost touches the ground – he leaps forward, swiping away the enemy ahead of him with his rear claw.

Pulling his gauntlets close, Mordex imbues them with icy energy before performing a leaping overhand swipe with both claws that carry him forward to a good distance.
Mordex howls, infusing his gauntlets icy energy, then very quickly lunging forward a very short distance in a grabbing motion. Anything struck is seized and subject to the second phase of the attack:

Active Input - Neutral: Mordex stops his lunge and hurls the target straight up.

Active Input - Hold Forward: Mordex performs a second short leap forward and throws the target down and forward.

Input Description Damage Stun Force
Neutral Mordex performs a leaping ice-infused uppercut with his rear hand that hits high over his head, and slightly ahead. If it strikes the enemy, he follows with a diagonal swipe of the scythe, knocking them up and away.

Planting the scythe point-down behind him, Scythe snarls and performs a short lunge, dragging the scythe forward and sweeping it forth, ripping a wave of jagged ice from the ground in a great distance ahead of him.
Mordex drops back a good distance as this attack charges, getting on all fours. When the attack is unleashed, he darts forward, swiping once with his scythe, infused with ice energy. If a target is struck, they are hooked by the scythe and subject to phase two of the attack:

Active Input - Neutral: Mordex stops and pulls the target straight back, throwing them behind him and turning around.

Active Input - Hold Forward: Mordex cross-steps, turning as he steps forward, and throws the target horizontally ahead of him.

Color Variations[]

  • Mordex's weapons are named Cull (Scythe) and the Rippers (Gauntlets).
  • Mordex's bot is named M0R-D3X.
  • Mordex's existence was long alluded to in the bio text of Diana, who was released a full year before Mordex would be released, leading to a fair amount of speculation and wonderment on Mordex's nature, and his role in the game.
  • Before he became Werewolf, in addition to his roles as Master Hunter, Mordex was also a Quartermaster. Being in charge of weapons and supplies would explain how he was able to keep the resources required for his terrible research a secret from the rest of the Order of the Exalted Lion.
  • Mordex is not the only werewolf in the Brawhalla universe - Isaiah and Fait's lore have both alluded to werewolves as a generally known occurrence. How exactly Mordex is different from other Brawlhalla werewolves is not precisely known yet.
